Assistant Market Manager
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dynamic individual to join our team as an Assistant Market Manager at Groundswell’s Galveston’s Own Farmers Market (GOFM). This position is crucial for supporting the Market Manager in ensuring the smooth operation of our bustling market every Sunday.
As the Assistant Market Manager, this individual will be responsible for various tasks aimed at maintaining a safe & functional market environment while fostering positive interactions with patrons, vendors & volunteers. This role requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys engaging with people, is comfortable working outdoors in all kinds of weather and can adapt quickly to unpredictable situations.
Candidates must be available to work on Sundays and must have reliable transportation.
Salary: $17/hour, approximately 6 hrs/week
FLSA Status: Part-Time, Non-Exempt
Reports to: Market Manager + Executive Director

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support Market Manager in leading the setup, breakdown, and overall logistics of the farmers market including physical set-up, volunteer management duties, Food Access Program administration, vendor coordination, and customer service
Alongside the Market Manager, ensure compliance with all market policies, public health regulations, and safety standards
Uphold clear communication with the Manager, vendors, volunteers, customers
Promote and participate in Groundswell initiatives/marketing strategies
Ensure Market SOPS are followed; provide timely feedback to staff as needed
Assist with volunteer management onsite to foster welcoming, efficient market
Support Groundswell’s efforts to maintain/develop fruitful relationships with local organizations, businesses and sponsors
Take photos/videos at market as needed
Collect and log market sales reports, food access logs, and other relevant data for reporting purposes during market day operations
Available to occasionally meet during the week virtually for 30 min- 1 hour to discuss Market Operation Plans for upcoming week (very seldom)
Support other Groundswell-hosted events on case-by case basis
Step in as primary Market Manager during rare occasions when the Market Manager is absent due to illness or vacation, etc.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to stay calm, collected, and customer-focused in high pressure situations
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with vendors, volunteers, and customers from diverse backgrounds.
Willingness to work collaboratively with the Market Manager, vendors, and volunteers to achieve common goals
Ability to speak both English & Spanish preferred, not required
EXPERIENCE
Prior experience volunteering with GOFM preferred
Comfortable with mobile technology (Square, other payment processors)
Comfortable using Google Suite applications such as Google Docs, Forms, Sheets, and Gmail for communication, documentation, and data management.
Managerial experience is strongly preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be comfortable working outdoors in any elements
Must be comfortable standing for long periods of time
Must be comfortable lifting up to 30+ lbs
Must be available every Sunday
7:00 AM - 1 PM
Off days include: the Sunday after OkraFest, the Sunday of Lone Star Rally weekend, the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and the Sunday between Christmas & New Year.
2026 dates are: 8/2, 11/8, 11/29, 12/27
Be available for occasional weekday meetings, 30 min-1hr, scheduled as needed
